Critics : On May 15, 2024, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga made its world premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures opened it in Australian theaters on May 23, 2024, and the next day it was released in the US to acclaim from reviewers. Variety’s Owen Gleiberman called Furiosa “franchise overkill” and full of “pretension” in a critical review.Nicholas Barber of the BBC gave the movie a 3 out of 5 stars but also expressed distaste for certain parts of it. “You soon reach the point where you’re sick of sand, sick of explosions, and sick of off-puttingly sadistic violence,” he wrote, describing the plot as meandering and tiresome. The movie was also deemed “a slog that’s working hard to persuade us we’re having a good time” in Stephanie Zacharek’s Time review. According to Australian Financial Review writer John McDonald, Hemsworth’s wooden acting style and the film’s writing both contributed to its failure.
